Bernie is a Chartered Accountant who worked for a major firm of accountants in London. Like the other Trustees, Bernie hopes to use his training and experience to benefit FIA. He became a Trustee in 2020, having been a supporter of FIA for several years, admiring the essential work it does and wishing to contribute more. For Bernie, the name of the charity says it all – he says it is great to see the wonderful spirit of co-operation among all the faith groups that support FIA.
Liz is a senior insurance professional focusing on management liability and corporate governance. She has a keen interest in ESG, DE&I and the cross-section of private industry, sustainability and social justice. She has helped establish gender equity networks in the City and serves as mentor in various capacities within her profession. She has been a volunteer with the MWNS for several years, as well as supporting other local charities - DONS Local Action Group and Spires. Liz is happy for this opportunity use her skills and energy to serve those most at risk in her local community.
Tom brings extensive experience in digital marketing gained through roles at YMCA, MND Association, and Crohn’s & Colitis UK. With a strong background in digital campaigns, social media management, website development and video content creation, Tom has supported awareness, engagement and fundraising across the charity sector. Alongside his professional work, he volunteers with not for profit organisations and helps organise community cycling activities for young people and adults. Outside of volunteering, Tom enjoys staying active through cycling, running, gym training and Pilates.
Robin is a retired chartered surveyor who has lived in SW19 for more than 30 years. He is a long standing supporter of FiA, which he regards as one of Merton’s most important local charities. He became a trustee so that the Merton Winter Night Shelter can operate effectively under FiA’s umbrella, as well as integrating the distinct services they offer to the homeless, so increasing their effectiveness. He is Treasurer of Trinity United Reformed Church, a member of Merton Citizens and Chair of the Friends of Haydons Road Recreation Ground.
Richard is a retired local government officer, including roles as Head of Planning at Camden and 12 years as Director of Environment and Regeneration at Merton, as well as interim Chief Executive. He subsequently worked as Executive Director of Regeneration at Southwark, leading their planning and property services, together with programmes for the regeneration of major housing estates. He also chaired the Webb Memorial Trust, a charity which examined causes and solutions to poverty in the UK, and was a Governor at Brooklands College, a further education college in Weybridge.
Caroline is a social worker with experience working with disabled people, those who have mental health problems, drug and alcohol users and homeless people. She is a trainer and volunteer co-ordinator who has most recently managed Richmond Foodbank, and previously was Senior Worker in Merton’s Homeless Project, Faith in Action.
Brandie has a background in governance, advocacy, and campaign development, with extensive experience supporting community organisations and grassroots initiatives. Passionate about social justice, they have worked closely with charities and social enterprises to ensure alignment with policies and Charity Commission requirements. They are committed to helping organisations streamline processes, strengthen governance, and communicate their stories clearly, enabling them to make a meaningful impact in their communities.
Carol was a senior social worker for Wandsworth Council, for 30 years in Queen Mary’s Hospital Roehampton with a special interest in disability, welfare rights, and housing. For many years she has been an FiA volunteer and was previously co-coordinator for the Winter Night Shelter at St Mark’s Wimbledon. She has volunteered with many other charities, including CAB, the Simon Community, Crisis and Housing Justice. Carol is a qualified aromatherapist who works every year for two weeks in Sarajevo with a humanitarian charity, and has also worked for a cancer support charity in London. She is a churchwarden at her Orthodox church (Greek Patriarchate) in Clapham.
Talik is a senior scientist at Imperial College London and a Trustee of Wimbledon Mosque. He is actively involved in numerous charitable organisations. Talat has also been involved with the Merton Winter Night shelter for more than 10 years and currently is one of the organisers.
Jane works as an Independent Producer in the film and television industry, across a range of programming encompassing drama, and animation. During the course of her career, she has worked in executive positions responsible for overseeing the running and delivery of films at both BBC Films and Film 4. Jane has been a long-time volunteer at the Faith in Action Homeless Drop-in, as well as a venue coordinator for one of the host-venue founder members of the Merton Winter Night Shelter. Jane continues to be an active volunteer in both areas.
Martin currently works within the homeless sector for the YMCA as a Progression Coach, working with homeless people to help get them back into work or volunteering and even stepping up to use their voices to campaign locally for what they need, as well as delivering independent living skills workshops. As a previous service user of Faith in Action’s Merton Homeless Drop-In and a guest of Merton’s Winter Night Shelter, he hopes to share his first-hand experience of homelessness as a trustee to assist the amazing work already going on at Faith in Action. He has a massive passion for and is an advocate of genuinely affordable housing, not just in his home borough of Merton, but across the whole of London, working with organisations such as Merton Citizens.
Kevin is a Chartered Management Accountant with over 30 years post qualified experience. He spent 22 years working for large multinational commercial organisations and has 16 years’ experience working as CEO and CFO for a medium size charity. Kevin is a trustee director of a defined benefit pension scheme and captains a local tennis team. Kevin is grateful for the opportunity to use his skills and experience to help people who are suffering from homelessness and to support FIA’s good work.
